Full Current Affair (Australia) Interview of 2Day FM DJs About Nurse’s Suicide

Telephone DialI just stumbled onto this Current Affair video interview of DJs Michael Christian and Mel Greig about the tragic death of Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who forwarded the call to Kate’s (Duchess of Cambridge) nurses.

I do feel for these two. I honestly believe they never even imagined that their actions could have resulted in these tragic consequences. However, it quickly became clear that although they were emotional and empathetic toward the family of the nurse, they had been coached on how to answer interview questions. When they were at a loss for an answer they’d return to the same ‘pat’ phrases. To paraphrase, those responses were “no one could have foreseen or imagined the result,” and they never cut off the conversations when they became inappropriate and confidential because they were to “submit the tape to a team of staff who make the decisions regarding airing these pranks.”

I am very disturbed that both of them kept repeating that they “expected to be discovered because of their horrible accents and the call cut off,” essentially placing the blame yet again on the nurses whose took part in the call.
